Want to do better ?

Almost all of us want to be better than our present circumstances, be for a better role, better financial position, being a better driver, a better cook, better parent or a better friend :-). Yes, we all have the desire(s) but wondering what makes us better? It is our "Mind".

When we perform a certain action, either we end up doing it flawlessly or leave some room for betterment. Let's take a situation where in we might attempt a task for the first time with a little probability of doing it picture perfect. But when the same or similar activity is done again, our mind is Pre-loaded with old thoughts / suggestions or alternatives based on our previous experience. This time we do it slightly better as our previous learning aligns with the action. 3rd time, while faced with the same situation, we tend to move towards expertise. Our mind has faced it twice and now is in the process of loading one more option in addition to the previous ones. This way our options become more and more expansive as the situation gets familiar.

This means our mind learns every time from our surroundings, our decisions, thoughts & say actions. With passage of time the learned "Mind" becomes conditioned to face the familiar possibilities. Now, pause and think, how did this happen? How did I become a better teacher, a better cook, a better manager, a better architect? This happened because of the experience conditioning our Mind. The experiences and the reflexes have tuned my mind.

If in any case we don't have a pleasant experience, the mind fears performing the act again. This deters us from getting into newer venues. The leading question then becomes as how to manage to receive an optimum experience if not the best. Now, here is where the guard rails come in place. There is always a told / untold set of instructions (acting as a manual) for any activity. These when adopted can seek to provide a "better experience".

It should be safe for us to conclude:

  • Guard rails (guidelines) leads to Experience
  • Experience leads to conditioning of the Mind
  • Finally a Conditioned Mind leads to objective achievements

Is this what is being coded as human machine interface (conjugated with AI)? If yes, it can be a deadly combination ending up as a challenge to human race on earth !!

This travelogue is about our year end trip to places in down south starting from Chennai to Trichy, Madurai, Pillayarpatti, Sankaran Koil, Tenkasi, Srivalliputhur and Thiruparakundram. We started on Monday (23rd December 2013) morning at 7 AM (All timings in IST :-)) It was a clear day and we began our journey to Madurai via Trichy on our Maruti Ritz Zxi. Me and my family were all enthusiastic for the long drive of about 500 Kms. We decided to have our breakfast at Villupuram on NH 45. I don't exactly remember the name of the restaurant but the food was just okay, we had mini tiffin ( a combination of multiple south indian delicacies like pongal, upma, idli, mini dosa and coffee ). We by passed Trichy @ about 12 noon traversing about 300 Kms.We didn't think of getting into the city rather left towards Madurai.  Crossed Trichy, Enroute to Pillayarpatti - 1 Crossed Trichy, Enroute to Pillayarpatti -2 Enroute to Madurai, about 20 kms from Virarimalai we ...

2009 Vacation Trip - Temples Galore

Guys, This is an attempt to record my experiences about the longest drive in my life on Wagon-R . I drove along with my family (My Parents, wife and my kutty 7 year old daughter) on Friday (25-Dec-09) morning. We started at about 09:30 hrs from Chennai and decided to take the NH45 route to Trichy and it's adjoining places. At about 13:30 hrs we reached Perambalur , had lunch @ New Vasantha Bhavan. The drive was absolutely refreshing, excellent smooth road (except for those troublesome toll gates). Rudrapriya was at her best jumping on the seats for all the cheer she was having during the drive. We came to know that there is a small water falls in the vicinity of about 15 kms, decided to venture. It is named " Myil Oothu " ( near ladapuram ) on the road towards " Thuraiyur ". The drive going inroads into the small villages was a splendour. Only one car could be barely on the road at a time and if there is another one, we obviously have to step down on to the mudd...
Instill Values in your Kids My daughter (Rudrapriya) is in her 6th grade, with her annual examinations nearing I see gearing interest from her towards books :). Yaah, she has started looking at her books and notes seriously. Last evening she came to me with a full size notebook and showed me some questions which her social studies teacher had shared with the class quoting as important questions to be read for the exam. It was told that 50% of the questions will come in from the list shared which seems to be a very common phenomenon. I felt a bit dejected and deceived. My worry was two fold, one is by sharing the questions they are directed towards short cuts in life leading them to be become laggards in life and the other is they wouldn't respect their own hard work which they have done for the whole year. I decided to approach the situation with a lateral thought of "why" should one accept what ever is being provided? I stated the exact same thought with my dau...
