Want to do better ?

Almost all of us want to be better than our present circumstances, be for a better role, better financial position, being a better driver, a better cook, better parent or a better friend :-).  Yes, we all have the desire(s) but wondering what makes us better ? It is our " Mind ".  When we perform a certain action, either we end up doing it flawlessly or leave some room for betterment. Let's take a situation where in we might attempt a task for the first time with a little probability of doing it picture perfect. But when the same or similar activity is done again, our mind is Pre-loaded with old thoughts / suggestions or alternatives based on our previous experience. This time we do it slightly better as our previous learning aligns with the action. 3rd time, while faced with the same situation, we tend to move towards expertise. Our mind has faced it twice and now is in the process of loading one more option in addition to the previous ones. This way our options beco...

An Idea - Demonetization - An opportunity to promote digitization (Villages)

Our country and fellow men are going through a difficult phase since Nov 8,2016 which includes the rich, poor, leaders and common man on the street. We should agree that we have been living a life of abundance for some time now, post liberalization. Post the decision by the government it becomes important for all of us to think about the ideology behind the motive. If we feel it is right, let's do our part to support it not for self alone but look for others who need our help, may be a small shop owner, a vegetable vendor, our maids or gardeners, drivers or support staff. Here is one awesome thought of increasing the penetration of internet / data usage by remote villages and digitize them. We see and hear that people at remote villages are unable to get into the digital band wagon because of mainly two reasons, I would say two parts - lack of literacy AND cost of data usage. For the Second part - we can think of our telecom companies like Idea, Jio, Airtel setting up dedica...

Can you decide in a "blink" ?

Summary of “Blink” By Malcolm Gladwell - “through my eyes” A fter a long time I picked up this book "blink" by Malcolm Gladwell because of an instigation from one of my friend :-) and I found some elements very intuitive and relevant to our day to day lives, thought of sharing it with you all.  It is all about snap judgments, of the power inside us which helps us make a decision within a split second. Our “unconscious-self” is a powerful force but it’s fallible. So when is it that we should trust our instincts and when should we be wary of them? Is it by nature or can it be practiced? The book says - Yes very well, this can be learnt and practiced. The book doesn’t talk about the methodology of how to pick on it but blown up research in google should be able to take us there. Our snap judgments and first impressions can be educated and controlled. There is a mention of reading expressions on our faces through the theory of “thin slices”. Thin-slicing refers to the a...
Instill Values in your Kids My daughter (Rudrapriya) is in her 6th grade, with her annual examinations nearing I see gearing interest from her towards books :). Yaah, she has started looking at her books and notes seriously. Last evening she came to me with a full size notebook and showed me some questions which her social studies teacher had shared with the class quoting as important questions to be read for the exam. It was told that 50% of the questions will come in from the list shared which seems to be a very common phenomenon. I felt a bit dejected and deceived. My worry was two fold, one is by sharing the questions they are directed towards short cuts in life leading them to be become laggards in life and the other is they wouldn't respect their own hard work which they have done for the whole year. I decided to approach the situation with a lateral thought of "why" should one accept what ever is being provided? I stated the exact same thought with my dau...

Blessings sought from Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Trivandrum, Kerala.

I am penning down after a long gap, pardon me if they have never met your standards. I had an opportunity to visit Trivandrum, Kerala as a part of the campus placements initiative conducted by our organization. We along with our team were @ College of Engineering, Trivandrum on 12th Sep morning. We were told that the best brains in Kerala originate from here and it wasn't false. The two day activity brought a lot of excellent candidates in front of us with raging individual percentages (some made me envy them :-)), initiatives and actions. They seemed bold and expressive. The whole day was frantically hectic with briefings, assessments, documentation, coordination etc. The day ended @ about 10:15 PM IST.  Thiru Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Trivandrum, Kerala From the very day I understood, am going to visit Trivandrum, had a desire to visit the majestic "Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple". There are specific darshan timings starting from 03:30 HRS to 04:45 HRS...

2009 Vacation Trip - Temples Galore

Guys, This is an attempt to record my experiences about the longest drive in my life on Wagon-R . I drove along with my family (My Parents, wife and my kutty 7 year old daughter) on Friday (25-Dec-09) morning. We started at about 09:30 hrs from Chennai and decided to take the NH45 route to Trichy and it's adjoining places. At about 13:30 hrs we reached Perambalur , had lunch @ New Vasantha Bhavan. The drive was absolutely refreshing, excellent smooth road (except for those troublesome toll gates). Rudrapriya was at her best jumping on the seats for all the cheer she was having during the drive. We came to know that there is a small water falls in the vicinity of about 15 kms, decided to venture. It is named " Myil Oothu " ( near ladapuram ) on the road towards " Thuraiyur ". The drive going inroads into the small villages was a splendour. Only one car could be barely on the road at a time and if there is another one, we obviously have to step down on to the mudd...
